Reading from your own work in your own home town is supposed to be a nerve wracking, desperate affair. Shaking and sweating are compulsory. It is reputedly the most likely time in your life to either develop or enhance your stammer. There are tales of authors and poets who crumble and cry at this point.
But not me. Oh no. It was due only to the totally wonderful welcoming bookshop and audience that made the Bridge Street Books reading a wholly enjoyable experience for all concerned. I would go so far as to say that I enjoyed it immensely and relish the thought of doing it all over again.
Wicklow folk – thank you thank you a million times.
